Overview

Contra Costa County is one of the few counties in the nation to offer the full spectrum of health-related services under one organizational structure. Doing business as Contra Costa Health (CCH), it represents the largest department of this County government, employing over 4,500 Full-Time Equivalents (FTEs). CCH has a long history of working in partnership with a broad range of stakeholders, including private hospitals, private physicians, community clinics, community-based organizations, schools, advisory boards, and the media. Using technology, including its extensive website and social media, CCH reaches County residents with critical health care information daily. CCH is an integrated system of health care services, comprised of several divisions that work in concert to cover health at every level: the individual, the family, and the community. This system includes primary, specialty, and inpatient medical care, mental health services, substance abuse treatment, public health programs, environmental health protection, hazardous materials response and inspection, and emergency medical services, as well as a county-operated health maintenance organization, the Contra Costa Health Plan (CCHP). For low-income and uninsured residents of Contra Costa, CCH is the safety net, providing medical services not available to them elsewhere.
