Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport was incorporated in 1925 and its headquarters is in Atlanta, Georgia. It is owned by the City of Atlanta (City) and operated by the Department. Originally operating as Candler Field, the Airport became Atlanta Municipal Airport in the 1930s, with its terminal facilities located north of the airfield and south of Virginia Avenue. The Airport is classified as a large hub by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), is the principal Airport serving the state of Georgia and the southeastern United States, and serves as a primary transfer point in the national air transportation system. It is a global gateway, offering nonstop service to more than 150 domestic and 70 international destinations.
