The Company franchises and operates McDonald’s restaurants, which serve a locally relevant menu of quality food and beverages in communities across 119 countries. Company employees, which include those in the Company's corporate and other offices as well as in Company-owned and operated restaurants, totaled approximately 200,000 worldwide as of year-end 2021, of which over 75% were based outside of the U.S. Over 92 percent of McDonald's restaurants worldwide are owned and operated by independent local businessmen and women.
