Overview

On July 1, 1970, the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (“NYC Health + Hospitals”), a New York State public benefit corporation created by Chapter 1016 of the Laws of 1969. As a main element of its core mission, NYC Health + Hospitals provides to all, on behalf of the City, comprehensive medical and mental health services of the highest quality. The System provides hospital and trauma care, neighborhood health centers, skilled nursing facilities, and community care. NYC Health + Hospitals serves over 1.2 million New Yorkers every year across the city’s five boroughs. NYC Health + Hospitals operates eleven acute care hospitals, five long-term care facilities, six diagnostic and treatment centers (five of those freestanding facilities), many hospital-based and neighborhood clinics, a certified home health agency, and discretely presents a related entity, MetroPlus Health Plan, Inc. (“MetroPlus”), a prepaid health services provider. During 2017, NYC Health + Hospitals realigned the delivery of care to three defined areas as follows: acute care (hospitals), post-acute care (long-term care facilities), and ambulatory care services.
