POSCO was founded in April 1968 as Pohang Iron & Steel Company to produce and sell iron, steel, and rolled materials. Posmate Co., Ltd., Samjung Packing & Aluminum Co., Ltd., POSCO Power Corp., POSTECH 2006 Energy Fund, POSCO America Corporation (POSAM), and others are subsidiaries. The consolidated subsidiary, POSCO E&C, operates in the highly competitive construction industry. POSCO's products are used widely in automotive, shipbuilding, construction, energy, and home appliances. On March 1, 2022, POSCO spun off its domestic steel production and sales business to establish a wholly owned subsidiary (POSCO), and the company converted into a holding company (POSCO Holdings Inc.). The registration of the Spin-off occurred on March 2, 2022. As part of the Spin-off, the company amended its name from POSCO to POSCO Holdings Inc., and the newly created wholly-owned subsidiary was named POSCO.
