Supportive Government Initiatives and Funding Programs Drive the 5G IoT Market Growth

Published: Nov 2025

5G IoT market was valued at $7.2 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $214.4 billion by 2035, growing at a CAGR of 40.3% during the forecast period (2026–2035). Governments across the globe are increasingly acknowledging the transformative power of 5G and IoT infrastructure in driving digital economies, improving connectivity, and delivering innovative services across sectors. Many countries are implementing public funding initiatives, grants, and strategic plans to provide financial assistance for infrastructure deployment, R&D, and cross-border collaborations to speed up deployment and adoption. These programs guarantee that underserved and isolated regions have access to next-generation connectivity while simultaneously promoting the private sector. For instance, in January 2024, Sateliot raised €6 million through a high-growth business programme, taking its overall funding to $14.6 million. The company is nearing the deployment of its first 5G satellite constellation, enabling commercial cellular NB-IoT devices to communicate directly from space, with potentially huge potential for IoT in distant and underserved areas.

Government Funding Programs Propelling 5G and IoT Deployment:

  • In March 2024, Cellnex was supported by the EU for a shared 5G network for IoT and V2X along the Czech-Poland border. The project name is BALTCOR5G, which will roll out cellular vehicle-to-everything infrastructure to connect Baltic-Adriatic road corridor segments between the Czech Republic and Poland. The funding is under the Connecting Europe Facility for digital projects (CEF Digital) and will create next-generation connected and automated mobility solutions for the automotive industry.
  • In July 2023, the UK introduced a $43.3 million fund to finance local IoT and 5G innovation, to improve digital connectivity and advanced wireless technologies. The fund will give communities the power to build smarter, more connected spaces, with the possibility of applications in areas such as manufacturing, transport, agriculture, and public services.
