France Automotive Carbon Fiber Market to Reach $0.3 Billion by 2035

Published: Nov 2026

France automotive carbon fiber market was valued at $0.1 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $0.3 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 5.2% from 2026 to 2035. Market growth is supported by vehicle electrification and demand for lightweight materials. According to France’s National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE), more than 50% of vehicles produced in France in 2025 had fully or partially electric powertrains, compared with 40% in 2021. INSEE also reported that new electric passenger-car registrations in France in 2025 were 1.5 times domestic production, while six out of ten electric cars produced in France were exported, mainly to European markets.

The automotive value chain provides a significant manufacturing base for carbon-fiber applications. INSEE reported that the French automotive value chain generated €31.2 billion in value added, equivalent to 1.1% of French GDP, and comprised approximately 4,000 companies employing 329,000 people. Carbon fiber is used where low weight, stiffness, strength, and dimensional stability are required in automotive structures and components. Within the market segmentation, the Recycled Fiber segment is expected to record high growth as manufacturers develop circular material streams and recycling technologies for carbon-fiber composites.

PAN Carbon Fiber Segment Leads the France Automotive Carbon Fiber Market

The PAN carbon fiber segment represents the principal material segment in the France automotive carbon fiber market, supported by domestic production of PAN-based carbon fiber and its use in automotive structural and interior applications. Toray Carbon Fibers Europe operates its production facilities and headquarters in France and manufactures the PAN-based precursor, carbon fibers, and composite materials locally. Its automotive portfolio includes carbon fibers for chassis, body structures, bumpers, aerodynamic components, wheels, seats, doors, and interior applications.

Demand for PAN-based carbon fiber is also linked to the transition toward electrified vehicles in France. INSEE reported that more than half of vehicles produced in France in 2025 had fully or partially electric powertrains, compared with four out of ten in 2021. In March 2026, Toray Carbon Fibers Europe also started a new carbon-fiber production facility in South-West France, increasing total annual plant capacity from 5,000 tonnes to 6,000 tonnes, with production covering T300 and high-modulus carbon fibers.

Recent Developments

  • In December 2025, Toray Carbon Fibers Europe highlighted the expansion of its carbon-fiber manufacturing capacity in France to more than 6,000 tonnes per year in 2026, covering a broad portfolio of carbon fibers from standard to high modulus. The company stated that its French operation supplies European manufacturers and supports applications including automotive, while its integrated production chain covers PAN-based carbon fiber through composite materials.

  • In October 2025, Toray Carbon Fibers Europe highlighted the use of TORAYCA carbon fibers in sports-car applications, including structural, aerodynamic, and interior components. The company also stated that its bio-circular carbon-fiber grades are produced in France and highlighted their use in automotive applications, including the Lamborghini Revuelto.
