Further, in March 2023, French provider of automated airport solutions Alstef Group has signed a 20 million levs ($11.06 million/10.2 million euro) contract to supply a new automated baggage handling system for Sofia Airport’s Terminal 2, the airport concessionaire, SOF Connect. Alstef will supply, install and maintain the baggage handling solution that has a capacity of up to 2,400 bags per hour. The project is part of the airport’s overall transformation in which 150 million levs will be invested by the end of 2025. With the commissioning of the system, Terminal 2 will be able to serve a significantly higher number of passengers compared to its current capacity. The introduction of the new baggage handling system is part of the airport’s development plan, which will allow Terminal 2 to take all the traffic from the almost 70-year-old Terminal 1 building.
