Rising Demand For Hvac Applications Will Drive The Global Bldc (Brushless Direct Current) Motors Market

Published: Oct 2019

Brushless DC motors market is gaining momentum across the globe due to rising demand from consumer electronics, transport, heating and ventilation and other industries that prefer these motors for varied applications. BLDC motors are better than the brushed DC motors in many aspects such as high efficiency, high-speed operation, and better heat dissipation. It is a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) that is driven by direct current electricity; it comprises an electronically controlled commutation system rather than a mechanical commutation system. BLDC motors are also referred to as permanent magnet motors.

Permanent magnet motors are categorized on the basis of the wave shape of their induce EMF (Electromotive force) as trapezoidal and sinusoidal. A DC machine has windings on both the stationary and rotating members, and these circuits are in relative motion whenever the armature (rotor) rotates. However, due to the action of the commutator, the resultant MMF (magnetomotive force) produced by currents flowing in the rotor windings is stationary. BLDC motors are applicable in several industries such as automotive, appliances, aerospace, medical, consumer, and industrial automation equipment.

Brushless DC motors offer many benefits compared to induction motors and brushed DC motors such as high-speed range, high dynamic response, noiseless operation, high efficiency, and long operating life. However, it has some drawbacks such as the eventually wear out of brushes, sparking and electrical noise, and difficulty in cooling. BLDC motors are of two types, outer rotor motor, and inner rotor motor. Both of them differ only in design, however, the working principle is similar. In the inner rotor motor type, the rotor is placed in the center of the motor and the stator winding surrounding the motor. The rotor magnets do not insulate heat inside and assist in ease of heat dissipation. In outer rotor motor type, the rotor surrounds the winding which is placed in the core of the motor.

Increasing demand for HVAC applications and transition towards energy-efficient motors are primary factors that are driving the market growth. Further, permanent magnet DC motors (PMDC) are used for motion control functions in mobile HVAC applications including condensers, pumps, fans, blowers and compressors that are used in buses, passenger cars, trucks, and others. the major benefits offered by thee motors include reliability, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. Brushless DC motor industry is gaining traction in mobile HVAC applications as these motors offer variable-speed capability at a negligible additional cost while achieving benefits of improved efficiency and reliability.
