Automobile Demand and Innovation to Boost the Car Seat Headrest Market

Published: Jun 2023

The global car seat headrest market is witnessing a significant growth. To meet the various demands of customers, the market for car seat headrests provides a variety of solutions. Car seat headrests come in two varieties- integral and adjustable. Integral headrests for automobile seats are a standard seat feature, giving occupants constant support and comfort. They are frequently found in several automobiles and provide a seamless design that improves the inside of the car. Car seat headrests that are adjustable, however, offer flexibility and customization. Adjustable headrests provide passengers the option to customize their seating arrangement and increase comfort on lengthy trips. They may be elevated, lowered, inclined, or moved.

Drivers of the Car Seat Headrest Market

The growing automobile industry is the key driver of the car seat headrest market. According to CEIC data, China’s automobile sales grew from 26.2 million in 2021 to 26.9 million in 2022, and in 1999, Chinese automobile sales were reported at 18.3 million. Additionally, according to the International Trade Government’s report in April 2023, China’s automotive production is expected to reach 35 million by 2025.

The strict safety standards established by governments and automotive authorities are another factor influencing the market for car seat headrests. In order to protect passengers during collisions or sudden stops, these laws require headrests to be installed in all automobiles. The purpose of car seat headrests is to support the head and neck while driving, hence lowering the risk of concussion injuries. The need for car seat headrests is being fueled by the need for high-quality headrests that automakers must include in their vehicles as safety regulations continue to advance and become more stringent.

In the US, for instance, car seat headrests must adhere to restrictions defined by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS), specifically FMVSS 202a, which establishes criteria for head restraints to avoid whiplash injuries. In addition, ECE R17, which specifies specifications for head restraints and their performance in rear-end accidents, is a rule that must be followed by vehicle seat headrests in the European Union.
