In January 2022, Weggington® Europe introduced innovative recyclable tray for meat, fish and poultry products. Instead of applying a layer of polyethylene to the top of modified atmosphere packaging, the container, called PiranhaTM is sealed using a sequence of raised teeth that run around the sealing extension. The raised teeth keep the seal intact even if the extension becomes filthy with animal fat, which can hinder closure on traditional packaging for meat, fish and poultry products. Greasy contaminants are forced into the channels between the raised teeth by Piranha, leaving the peaks clean. During PiranhaTM filling-line trials, the problem of burst seals due to grease contamination was also reduced to great extent. The increase in solutions for food processing equipment with advanced technology will support the market growth.
