Advanced Radar Technologies propel the Naval Radar Systems Market Growth

Published: Aug 2025

Naval radar systems market was valued at $5.24 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $8.97 billion by 2035, growing at a CAGR of 5.0% during the forecast period (2025–2035). The naval radar systems market is undergoing tremendous technological advancement. Phased-array radar systems based on solid-state technology are gaining popularity. These systems offer accurate terrain mapping with large arrays of small radiating elements in antennas. Compared to conventional parabolic antennas, phased-array systems can electronically steer high-power pencil beams without physically relocating the antenna structure, allowing scheduled transmission and reception according to specified operating requirements.

Additionally, existing naval radar technology increasingly makes use of advanced signal processing, digital beam forming, and enhanced stealth detection. These achieve greater detection, tracking, and targeting capability of threats over long oceanic ranges. The advanced technologies include such as Polari metric techniques, Precipitation Classification and Quantification, and Agile Beam Techniques, further support the market growth of naval radar systems. For Instance, CENK 200-N multi-beam 4D naval search radar, produced by ASELSAN, is a radar system capable of performing air and surface target detection & tracking from short to medium range. It is a radar system that is modular, lightweight, and has lower power consumption  due to its active phased array antenna structure and solid-state RF power amplifiers.

Key Players and Innovations

Several major players lead the naval radar systems market, including Lockheed Martin Corp., HENSOLDT AG, Northrop Grumman Corp., RTX Corp., and THALES Group. These companies are at the forefront of innovation, continually developing new technologies to meet the industry's evolving needs. Some of the recent developments in the market include-

  • In February 2025, Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget (Saab) introduced its Coast Control Radar at the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX) 2025 that took place from 17 to 21 February in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The software-defined radar system is designed to enhance the safety and security of maritime traffic and national sovereignty. The radar system is developed at Saab’s research and development centre in Tawazun Industrial Park, Abu Dhabi. Opened in 2017, the centre is used by the company to develop and produce a range of defence and security products.
  • In February 2025, Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hensoldt. The agreement, signed during the International Defence Exhibition and Conference (IDEX 2025) in Abu Dhabi from 17 to 21 February, aims to facilitate collaboration between the two companies in developing advanced naval technologies. This partnership is expected to combine ADSB's shipbuilding expertise with Hensoldt's sensor solutions to address operational requirements in the maritime and naval defense sectors. Hensoldt develops radar systems such as the Quadome 3D Air and Surface Surveillance radar and the TRS-4D radar, which utilise software-defined Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology.
  • In July 2024, Mitsubishi Electric Corp. announced that it has engaged with Raytheon, an RTX business, to supply components of the SPY-6(V) radar for U.S. Navy vessels. The Raytheon-built SPY-6(V) family of radars is the most advanced radar technology in production. It is projected to be deployed on 65 U.S. Navy ships over the next 10 years to defend against various threats.
