- In July 2025, the FDA approved Bravecto Quantum, the first 8- to 12-month flea and tick prevention for dogs, for dogs and puppies 6 months of age and older. It is the first FDA-approved medication to prevent dogs from getting fleas and ticks for 8 to 12 months. Bravecto Quantum needs a prescription from a licensed veterinarian because professional skill is needed for administration, monitoring, and treatment intervals. Isoxazoline preparations, which are most commonly used for flea and tick prevention, have been associated with neurologic adverse effects.
- In July 2025, the FDA approved Merck Animal Health's BRAVECTO QUANTUM, a one-year injectable, to prevent and control fleas and ticks in dogs. The treatment, which has been approved in more than 50 countries, kills adult fleas and is used for a full year on dogs and pups six months of age and up. It is the first parasiticide that protects for an entire year with just one dose.
- In January 2025, the FDA approved Zoetis' sarolaner, moxidectin, and pyrantel chewable tablets and topical solution to control and treat infestations from Asian longhorned ticks in dogs 8 weeks or older. The tablets are safe and effective, according to two studies that demonstrated them to be equal to or greater than 99.6% effective in control of these infestations. Despite this, Zoetis is warning against use in dogs with a seizure history since a seizure occurred in one of the studies.
