Etidronic acid (HEDP), a type of polymeric phosphonate, is a chelating agent that is added to bind or counter the effects of substances in water, such as iron, calcium, or other metal ions, which may be discharged as an element of grey wastewater and conceivably contaminate the supply of groundwater.
