Significant Collaboration and Partnership among Players Drives Precious Metals E-Waste Recovery Market

Published: Nov 2022

The global precious metals e-waste recovery market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 5.2% during the forecast period. Each year, more than 50 million tonnes of electronic waste is produced globally. If nothing is done, this is set to reach 74 million tonnes by 2030 – almost a doubling of tonnage in a decade. Major market players are focusing on the adoption of innovative technology to recover precious metals such as gold, palladium, silver, and copper. To achieve this, market players are collaborating and forming partneship with other major players. Such as,  in October 2021, the Royal Mint signed an agreement with Canadian clean tech start-up Excir to safely retrieve and recycle gold and other precious metals from electronic waste. Moreover, in November 2021, LKAB signed an agreement with Boliden to investigate the possibility of extracting pyrite concentrate from mining waste at the Boliden Aitik mine, which LKAB will subsequently process into fossil-free sulphuric acid.
