In January 2022, DFE Pharma expanded its nutraceutical portfolio with the launch of three starch-based excipients. In December 2021, American Key Food Products offered Native Waxy Potato Starch and Pregelatinized Native Waxy Potato Starch, made in Germany, to the North American food industry. These starches contain very high levels of amylopectin (99%), which contributes in increasing the end-product quality, such as fruit fillings, baked goods, soups and sauces, salad dressings, condiments, snacks, meat alternatives, and others. Moreover, the starches are offered in two forms which include Native Waxy Potato Starch, a cook-up starch, and Pregelatinized Native Waxy Potato Starch, a cold-swelling pregelatinized starch. Both are low dosages and high viscosity starches. 

In January 2020, Cargill Inc.developed pregelatinized maize starch named C-PharmaGel. The starch is used as a binding agent in the granulation of active ingredients. According to the company, the pregelatinized starches are excellent bioadhesives and can be used as a matrix for slow release.
