Technological Advancements and Major Investments Strengthening the Offshore Wind Forging Supply Chain

Published: Nov 2025

Wind turbine forging market was valued at $4.3 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $8.5 billion by 2035, growing at a CAGR of 7.4% during the forecast period (2026–2035). Large-scale forging technologies are increasingly focusing on the design requirements of next-generation offshore wind turbines, thus driving the market. With greater turbine capacities, exceeding 20 MW, the demand for ultra-large, forged components like flanges, shafts, and bearing rings has increased correspondingly, pushing manufacturers to increase their production capacity and invest in high-capacity forging equipment.

In October 2025, Iraeta Forgings manufactured and delivered 12-meter-wide flanges to CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering Company Limited for the world's first 25 MW wind turbine, called the H305. Each flange, weighing about 13.5 tons, was manufactured from an ingot by using the largest open forging press with a capacity of 22,000 tons, along with a 22-meter ultra-large vertical lathe and a 22-meter super ring rolling machine.

Additionally, in February 2024, US Forged Rings announced a $700 million investment in the US offshore wind industry, including building a tower fabrication facility and a steel forging plant. The company utilised both these facilities to service the growing domestic offshore wind market and fill a critical supply chain gap for offshore wind components.
