A key macro driver is the rapid expansion of electric mobility. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), global electric car sales exceeded 20 million units in 2025, representing approximately one in four cars sold worldwide. Electric car sales increased by about 20% from 2024, while the number of electric car models available globally approached 1,000. The increasing adoption of EVs requires more complex high-voltage cables, communication wiring, sensors, connectors, and electronic systems, increasing the need for continuity, insulation, resistance, high-voltage, and functional testing throughout vehicle production.
Automotive production also provides a substantial addressable application base. OICA reported 96.4 million motor vehicles produced globally in 2025, up 4% from 2024, with Asia-Oceania accounting for approximately 59.2 million units. The scale of vehicle production, combined with electrification and greater electronic content, is supporting investment in automated wire-harness inspection and end-of-line testing.
Recent manufacturer strategies are increasingly focused on automation, digitalization, EV applications, and geographic expansion. Komax acquired a majority stake in Chinese high-voltage cable-processing company Hosver in 2024 and acquired a 5% stake in E-Plus, a Chinese wire-harness MES provider, at the end of 2024. In 2025, Komax increased its Hosver holding to 67%, expanded production in Tianjin, and launched localized machines for twisting and data-wire processing. Keysight Technologies expanded its automotive testing portfolio in January 2025 with the Novus mini platform for software-defined vehicles, supporting automotive Ethernet technologies up to 10 Gbit/s. Its automated channel-testing solutions address automotive Ethernet harnesses, cables, and connectors. Chroma ATE introduced a mobile EVSE metering test system in November 2024 and launched an integrated automotive display signal-and-power tester in April 2025, broadening its automotive testing portfolio. Seica expanded its presence in India through its partnership with ElectroSolve India for Productronica-Electronica India 2024, showcasing automated flying-probe testing technology. DIT-MCO continues to offer distributed, wireless HT-128B systems capable of continuity, resistance, isolation, and functional wire-harness testing.
