LAMEA Automotive Carbon Fiber Market to Reach $0.8 billion by 2035

Published: Nov 2026

Latin America and Middle East & Africa (LAMEA) automotive carbon fiber market was valued at $0.4 billion in 2025 and is projected to reach $0.8 billion by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 5.0% from 2026 to 2035. The market is being supported by vehicle production, electrification, lightweighting requirements, and increasing use of carbon-fiber-reinforced materials in automotive structures and components. A key macro driver is the expansion of electric mobility across emerging markets. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), electric car sales in Latin America increased by 75% in 2025 to more than 350,000 vehicles. Brazil recorded approximately 180,000 electric-car sales, equivalent to 9% of new-car sales, while electric-car sales in Mexico more than tripled in 2025. The IEA also expects Latin American electric-car sales to increase by approximately 45% in 2026. These developments increase demand for lightweight materials that can support vehicle efficiency, driving range, and structural performance.

Automotive manufacturing provides another demand base. ANFAVEA reported that Brazil produced 2.644 million vehicles in 2025, up 3.5% year over year, while exports increased 32.1%. Mexico's INEGI reported production of 3,953,494 light vehicles in 2025, with light trucks accounting for 77.2% of production. The scale of vehicle manufacturing in these countries provides an expanding addressable base for carbon-fiber composites used in lightweight body structures, battery-related components, reinforcement systems, and other automotive applications.

Circular Mobility Accelerates Demand for Recycled Carbon Fiber in LAMEA Automotive Applications

The recycled carbon fiber segment is gaining relevance in LAMEA as automotive markets increasingly incorporate recyclability and material-recovery requirements into vehicle policies. In Brazil, the Ministry of Development, Industry, Foreign Trade and Services (MDIC) under the MOVER program specifies at least 80% recyclability or reuse of materials for vehicles covered by the Sustainable Car criteria. Brazil's regulatory framework further establishes higher recyclability targets for new vehicle projects from 2027, with new M1 and N1 vehicle projects required to achieve at least 85% reuse or recyclability by mass and 95% recoverability. These requirements create a regulatory basis for greater consideration of recyclable materials and recovery-oriented material solutions in automotive manufacturing.

The regional automotive transition is also increasing the importance of lightweight and resource-efficient materials. The International Energy Agency (IEA) reported that electric-car sales in Latin America and the Caribbean reached nearly 350,000 units in 2025, representing around 70% annual growth, while Brazil and Mexico accounted for a substantial share of the region's growth. Carbon-fiber composites can support vehicle lightweighting, while recycled carbon fiber provides an avenue for recovering material from carbon-fiber composite waste. Toray states that it is developing recycled carbon fiber from carbon-fiber production scrap and customer-factory waste and is accelerating development of higher-value rCF applications. These recycling capabilities are relevant to the LAMEA automotive market as vehicle electrification and material-circularity requirements develop across the region.

Recent Developments

  • In December 2025, Syensqo and Saudi Aramco signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a joint venture for carbon fiber and advanced composites in Saudi Arabia. The proposed collaboration is intended to develop a competitive carbon-fiber and advanced-composites value chain in the Kingdom and support the development of local advanced-materials capabilities. This is directly relevant to the Middle East carbon-fiber market because the proposed activities are centered in Saudi Arabia.
  • In November 2025, Aramco and Syensqo extended a memorandum of understanding to explore the localization of carbon fiber and advanced composites for industrial applications in Saudi Arabia. The collaboration is intended to support the development of localized advanced-materials manufacturing capabilities in the Middle East, potentially strengthening regional access to carbon-fiber materials and composites.
