Gas Discharge Tube Market

Global Gas Discharge Tube Market Size, Share & Trends Analysis Report, Forecast Period, 2021-2027

Published: Oct 2021 | Report Code: OMR2024281 | Category : Semiconductor Materials and Components | Delivery Format: /

The global gas discharge tube market is estimated to grow at a significant CAGR during the forecast period. Electrical injuries, which can occur as a consequence of lightning, low-voltage, or high-voltage damage, resulting in significant injuries and mortalities. Almost all electrical injuries are accidental and, in many cases, avoidable. Electrical injuries can cause many tissues or organ dysfunction, even if they are not instantly fatal. According to the NCBI, electrical injuries cause mortalities of about 1000 people in the US each year. Approximately 400 of these are caused by high-voltage electrical injuries, with lightning causing 50 to 300 of them. There are also at least 30,000 non-fatal shock incidents each year. Electrical injuries account for approximately 5% of all burn unit admissions in the US each year. Children account for about 20% of all electrical injuries. Toddlers and teenagers are the most affected.

Gas discharge tubes are structures like a tube consisting of two glass electrodes in general. A gas discharge tube contains a gas mix that, compared with the normal atmospheric pressure, is kept at a marginal pressure. Increasing electrode voltage releases the gas inside the tube, which generates an avalanche that becomes a highly efficient conductor. The current is transferred to the ground from the gas discharge tube until the voltage is normal.  The gas discharge tube protects fragile equipment against hazardous transient voltages.  The gas discharge tube moves the extra current to the ground line by using inert gas as a conductor between two lines gas discharge tubes have two types of designs parallel circuit and series circuit design. Gas discharge tubes are used to emit light in compact fluorescent bulbs, which is an important factor to consider in terms of market growth. Gas discharge tubes are also used in the production of metal halide lights, neon lights, and sodium-vapour lamps.

The rising number of hazardous accidents caused by the flow of high voltage in an electronic device which in turn, is driving the adoption of gas discharge tubes. Gas discharge tubes are typically used to protect sensitive telecom parameters such as power lines, data transmission lines, and signal lines from transient surge voltages caused by equipment switching operations and lightning strikes. Overvoltage fault protection is also provided by gas discharge tubes, which protect against damage caused by high energy surges.

In March 2019- Littlefuse Inc. has introduced a new 650 V SiC Schottky Diode, a provider of gas discharge tubes. With new package sizes, the company renamed the product with improved reliability, thermal management and efficiency overall. These improved diodes are utilised for several applications, including electric charging stations, free-running diodes in inverter stages and adjustment of the power factor, among other applications. Further, in March 2019, Bourns Inc. has announced that it has launched two smaller diode series profiles and compact TVs to support the growing demand for high-performance density design in miniaturisation.
