The global secondary thin film battery market is estimated to grow at a significant CAGR during the forecast period. A thin-film battery is a type of solid-state battery. The potential of combining the benefits of solid-state batteries with the benefits of thin-film manufacturing methods has led to its development. Owing to the rising trend of product downsizing, as well as an increase in IoT implementation, thin-film batteries have been gaining significance in the current environment. Wearable technology, medical and cosmetics, packaging, and consumer electronics have seen technological development that is expected to drive the secondary thin-film battery.

Wearable device applications are expanding from consumer electronics and healthcare to wireless communication devices, and new product launches and advancements are bringing more product innovation. Printed thin-film batteries can provide the great flexibility and ultra-thin design that these devices demand. Fitbit's year-end sales were $1.4 billion, and the firm sold roughly 16 million smart fitness gadgets, according to the company. Thin-film batteries have a diversity of uses in the wearable devices industry. Thus, the increase in demand for smart wearable electronics is expected to drive the adoption of secondary thin-film batteries.

In May 2019- Southwest Electronic Energy (SWE), a developer of innovative battery solutions, was bought by Ultralife Corp. for $25 million. Ultralife Corporation's wide portfolio of battery and charger technologies was improved by this acquisition, and its technical expertise was expanded to new industrial areas.

In May 2017- Enfucell and Central Midori have agreed to print Enfucell's SoftBattery power sources under a licensing agreement. Enfucell's partner network will be expanded internationally as part of this agreement, allowing it to service the fast-developing markets for IoT-enabled and wearable devices powered by printing batteries.
