Rising Demand for Unconventional Gas Extraction that Drives Market Growth

Published: May 2025

Artificial lift pumps market was valued at $7.6 billion in 2024 and is anticipated to reach $12.4 billion in 2035, growing at a CAGR of 4.6% between 2025 and 2035. The global artificial lift pumps market is witnessing high growth as demand for the production of unconventional gas, particularly in tight gas plays such as the Permian Basin that contain natural gas trapped in low-permeability rock formations, requires enhanced recovery methods such as artificial lift systems for optimal production. As the production of natural gas leads to an economic shift, operators are increasingly depending on artificial lift systems to optimize well performance and recover more from mature and hard reservoirs.

As per the US Energy Information Administration, 2024, the overall US dry natural gas output averaged 103.3 billion cubic feet per day and remained the same as during the same time in 2023. Shale gas output decreased by 12% in Haynesville and 10% in Utica, while the Permian play increased by 10%. Utica’s September output was 5.6 billion cubic feet per day, down 33% from its December 2019 peak, and drilling expenses are marginally higher because of deeper wells. In September 2024, production of Haynesville declined 14% to a September 2024 production level of 13.0 billion cubic feet per day, from the all-time peak production in May 2023. Henry Hub natural gas prices, meanwhile, decreased to a $2.10 per million Btu average during 2024, with that affecting economic attractiveness of the dry gas-producing formations.
