Sustainable Packaging Innovations to Reflect Positively on the Global Consumer Packaging Market

Published: Sep 2020

The global consumer packaging market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 5.1% during the forecast period (2020-2026). Rising inclination towards sustainable packaging is contributing to the increasing innovations in the consumer packaging sector. Diageo plc, Unilever plc, Nestlé S.A., and the Coca Cola Co. are some major food and beverage and personal care companies that are replacing their product packaging with 100% recyclable packaging. For instance, in May 2020, Nestlé Waters launched its first 100% recycled plastic water bottle to reinforce its commitment to sustainability in Spain. The new 1-liter water bottle of Nestlé Aquarel has three attractive designs that include messages to encourage people for recycling.

The introduction of this new product is a part of the Nestlé Waters' commitment which includes that all bottles of mineral water, which are already 100% recyclable, will consist of a large percentage of recycled plastic. Therefore, it is the first bottle developed from 100% recycled Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic and is launched in the Spanish market. The company declared that in the coming months, it will continue to widen the use of recycled plastic in other major formats in its portfolio. This, in turn, will encourage other firms to launch more eco-friendly and innovative packaging solutions for their products, and thereby will leverage the market growth. Other key factors driving the market growth include growth in end-user industries and the expansion of the e-commerce sector.
