Additionally, a lesser concentration of it can be found in other bodily areas such the brain and skin. Ageing and several pathological conditions, such as cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), reduces the bioavailability of lycopene.  It has been recommended that its supplementation—through a variety of channels, like pasteurised watermelon juice—increase its circulating serum level in populations in need. Surprisingly, among the various natural antioxidants, carotenoids have the largest concentration in the serum and tissues. Additionally, one study on Americans found that lycopene is the most abundant carotenoid in plasma and tissues. Furthermore, lycopene is the most effective antioxidant, followed by astaxanthin (among the many carotenoids). It is a crucial ROS (reactive oxygen species) deactivator. For instance, it has a two- and ten-fold greater capacity to remove singlet oxygen than beta-carotene and alpha-tocopherol, respectively. The health advantages of lycopene have drawn growing attention in recent years. It is not simply a strong antioxidant; several systematic reviews and meta-analysis studies have evaluated and endorsed its positive effects in the prevention and treatment of a wide range of ailments.
