Spain electric bus market was valued at $1,355 million in 2024 and is projected to reach $4,397 million by 2035, expanding at a CAGR of 11.3% (2025–2035). The growth in the market is driven by increasing electric bus contracts for public, municipal investments, and guarantees of sustainable urban mobility.  Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and Malaga are some of the cities in Spain replacing aging fleets with zero-emission alternatives. 

For instance, in July 2024, the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed a €50 million ($54.1 million) loan with Madrid's Empresa Municipal de Transportes (EMT) to finance the expansion of EMT's zero-emissions bus fleet, advancing support for sustainable urban public transport. The project covers the purchase of 250 electric buses and 10 hydrogen buses to replace the vehicles that have been in service in Madrid the longest.

Moreover, in December 2024, the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed a €69 million ($74.6 million) loan with Valencia’s Empresa Municipal de Transportes (EMT) to finance the expansion of EMT Valencia’s zero-emissions bus fleet, boosting support for sustainable urban public transport. The project included the purchase of 145 electric buses to replace the vehicles that have been in service in Valencia for the longest. 

  • In July 2025, the municipal transport company of Valencia (EMT) ordered 84 modern city buses from MAN Truck & Bus - including 57 fully electric Lion's City 12 E and 27 Lion's City 18 with MAN's efficient hybrid technology. 
  • In June 2025, IVECO BUS received orders for 13  E-WAY electric buses to the Malaga Transport Company (EMT) in an event held in the Andalusian city.   • In July 2022, Ebusco signed a contract with Àrea Metropolitana de Barcelona (AMB) in Spain for 21 Ebusco 2.2 electric 12-meter buses.
