The server uses the Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) protocol for FC SAN data and the Ethernet protocol for LAN data, to transport both FC SAN and LAN traffic to an Ethernet port on a converged switch. The FCoE traffic is converted to FC and is sent to the FC SAN, by the converged switch. The Ethernet traffic is routed to the LAN immediately.
