The global crankshaft position sensor market is estimated to grow at a significant CAGR during the forecast period. A variable reluctance magnetic sensor is a crankshaft position sensor (CPS). It is one of the most important engine management systems components. The sensor is used for the control of the position or rotation speed of the crankshaft in an internal combustion engine. The primary functional purpose of this sensor is to measure rotational velocity and speed (RPM). The rate that the crankshaft spins is also recorded. This information is then used by the engine control unit (ECU) to regulate the ignition, fuel injection and other key engine parameters.

A crankshaft is a piece of rotating machinery. A sensor is an electronic device that monitors the position or rotating speed of a crankshaft of the motor. This information is used for the control of ignition systems and other engine characteristics by engine management systems. This sensor has the main role to specify the rotational speed and speed of the movement. It also monitors the rotational speed of the crankshaft. The engine control unit then uses this information to manage ignition, fuel injection and other essential engine functions. These sensors are currently in high demand in cars, allowing manufacturers to provide more security, reliability, safety and information to drivers. To add more functions and compete with other competitors, electronic equipment manufacturers add more sensors into their products.

The crankshaft sensors market can be segmented into passenger cars, light commercial vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles, depending on the type of vehicles that are installed in these sensors. These sensors can be separated into induction, magnetic collector crankshaft, Hall Effect, magneto-resistant element and optical-based on operating technology. Inductive sensors act as small alternators and transmit the pulse frequency to the ECU, which detects the motor speed. In September 2017, Denso has launched a Crankshaft position sensor for Toyota and Lexus model to ensure its reach to approximately 5.5 million vehicles.
