The global soft tissue fillers market is expected to grow at a significant CAGR 7.7% during the forecast period (2022-2028). Soft tissue fillers are substances that plump up the skin or the tissue beneath it – are used to smooth out wrinkles that emerge as the skin's collagen and elastin fibres break down. Aging, excessive squinting, frowning, smiling, and, especially, smoking are all factors that contribute to this breakdown. Fillers can also be used to replace volume lost due to ageing or weight reduction.

The key companies operating in the industry are highly inclined towards the adoption of different growth strategies including partnerships and collaborations, mergers and acquisitions, geographical expansion, and new product launches, to remain competitive in the marketplace. For instance, Silk Medical Aesthetics, along with sister company Evolved by Nature, the developer of Activated Silk biotechnology, published the results of a 44-patient feasibility study for its all-natural dermal filler for Nasolabial Folds (NLFs) under an FDA-approved IDE clinical trial in November 2021. For soft tissue augmentation, the About Face By Nature dermal filler is meant to be biocompatible, biodegradable, and reversible. The 13-week results show a positive safety profile, with high patient satisfaction and clinically significant reductions in NLF severity.

The company also stated that it has received FDA approval to begin an IDE for a 50-patient feasibility clinical trial to investigate the product for lip volume enhancement and fine wrinkles around the mouth; the experiment has now reached its full enrollment. In September 2021, Galderma announced the agreement with Sofregen to develop the next generation of biostimulator fillers using silk-based technology. Galderma's capabilities will be expanded further as a result of this agreement, which is based on science-based aesthetics innovation and a unique heritage in biostimulators and hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers. The new platform takes advantage of silk protein's unique ability to restore volume quickly and offer structure that aids in the formation of new tissue.
