The Global Virtual Evolved Packet Core Market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 13.5% during the forecast period. A Virtual Evolved Packet Core (vEPC) is a framework for voice and data processing, and switching in mobile networks that uses Network Functions Virtualization (NFV), to virtualize the functions of an Evolved Packet Core (EPC). The vEPC framework has been used in 4G LTE mobile networks and will be a fundamental component of the next-generation 5G network design. Mobile providers can theoretically modify networks to satisfy the particular requirements of individual consumers by virtualizing Evolved Packet Core (EPC) capabilities, mixing and matching individual network components as needed. By decreasing dependency on specialised hardware, vEPC can cut CAPEX and OPEX, while speeding up service delivery, allowing for on-demand scaling, and adapting to real-time network circumstances and user needs.

According to the Ericsson Mobility Report 2020, overall mobile data traffic  exceeded to 49  Exabytes per month at the end of 2020, and is expected to exceed 226EB per month by 2026. At the moment, video traffic accounts for 66 percent of all mobile data traffic. The increase in traffic is related to an increase in both the number of smartphone subscriptions and the average data volume per subscription. In countries like India, traffic growth has been on the rise, and, according to the Ericsson Mobility Report 2020, the country continues to have the largest monthly smartphone usage at 15.7GB.

To be ready for IoT, MNOs need to get on board with NFV.. Virtual EPC is planned to be commercially deployed in MNOs' live networks, to enable a range of use cases. vEPC enables MNOs to personalise their networks for unique consumers, sectors, and applications at a low cost, which is crucial in the diverse world of IoT. The vEPC framework also supports low-latency use cases at the network edge, allowing CSPs and businesses to link mobile and IoT devices, data centres, and public or private clouds. For Instance, In August 2020, Nokia was selected by Taiwanese mobile operator Asia Pacific Telecom (APT), as the single vendor for 5G New Radio (NR), in a deal that also encompasses 5G core (non-standalone and standalone), security, and monetization.
