China black tea market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of around 6% during the forecast period. China is the largest producer and consumer of tea all across the globe. Due to this, the region has the largest market share during the forecast period. China is the largest tea producer globally. As per the International Tea Committee, around 2.6 million tons of tea was produced in the country in 2018 as compared to 2.4 million tons in 2017. China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, around 115 million people are employed in the tea industry in the country out of which around 80 million are tea farmers. 

In 2018, the planting area of tea in the country was 2.9 million hectares, which accounts for 60% of the global planting area. Tea is produced mostly in provinces towards the south and east region of the country as the climate is humid and ranges from tropical to subtropical. A large portion of tea is consumed in the country. Due to this, only around 10-20% of the tea production is exported every year which generates an export value of $1.6 billion.

The tea industry in China is a fragmented market as the country has around 70,000 tea companies. However, there is no international renowned Chinese brand in the tea market, which is a major concern for the Chinese government. It is due to that lack of brand power reduces the margin and profitability in the international market.

Most of them are international brands and none of them are Chinese based companies. Some of the domestic tea brands of the country include Mao Feng, Wuyi oolong, Dragonwell and so on.
