Published: Oct 2021 | Report Code: OMR2024329 | Category : Renewable Energy | Delivery Format: /

The global hard carbon market is estimated to grow at a significant CAGR during the forecast period. Hard carbon is a solid type of carbon that, even at temperatures as high as 3000 °C, cannot be transformed to graphite by heat treatment. It is more commonly referred to as charcoal. Carbonaceous precursors are heated to around 1000 °C in the absence of oxygen to generate hard carbon. Polyvinylidene chloride (PVDC), lignin, and sucrose are all precursors for hard carbon. Soft carbon, or graphitizing carbon, is produced by other precursors such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and petroleum coke. By heating soft carbon to 3000°C, it may easily be transformed to graphite.

The volumetric capacity and early Coulombic efficiency are important elements in the development of fuel-cell batteries and are essential features to accelerate the commercialization of Na-ion batteries (NIBs). Several hard carbon features that are hardly addressed, such as tapped density and electrode porosity after calendaring, were examined in connection to their physicochemical characteristics and electrochemical performance to enable for improvement of these parameters. This was accomplished by using a series of controlled-property manufactured hard carbon spheres that were both sustainable and scalable.

Owing to its excellent energy storage capabilities, the lithium-ion battery has a wide range of applications in the sectors of mobile communication, information technology, consumer electronics, and mobile automotive. Advanced lithium-ion batteries are required to have a larger capacity, better rate performance, and longer service life. Increasing demand for lithium-ion batteries in various sectors such as automobiles and electric vehicles is driving the demand for hard carbon.
